Débutant : router un bateau à distance dans qtVlm via AIS ? was created by leo.lenaour
Bonjour à tous, et pardon si ma question vous semble un peu Noob ...
Je pensais utiliser qtVlm pour m'amuser à aider un ami qui fait la transat et dont je ne peux réceptionner les positions que via AIS ...
C'est jouable ? Comment ?
Merci pour votre aide
Léo

Hi Leo,
You can get the position of your friends boat into QTVLM and do simulations in various ways. If you me tell more with what you like to help him with and how perhaps I can be more specific.
The AIS limitation I see could be related to where on the Atlantic your friend is opposed to you - receiving end. If you are not sailing in range of his transponder or your friend is near the coast you should be able to see each other. If you are on shore and your friend is crossing the Atlantic you'll have to find other ways to share and import positions. Besides that you can build alternate routes, warn for weather etc.

Hi Ludwig,
Many thanks for your answer.
You're totally right he will be soon (actually he is) out of range.
I guess I can get his position via Satellite (I can see him on www.marinetraffic.com/ for instance) but,
- On Marinetraffic.com I need to pay to access his position, is there a way to access it for free ?
- Is there a way to import it into QTVLM ? I dont have any specific hardware.
Thanks
Leo

Hi Leo,
Similar functionality exist in Qtvlm. Go to QTVLM-> configuration->AIS-> check AIS via Internet, This is through AISHub but no guarantee and nothing to say about the timeliness of the data.
Alternatively your friend can send the location, heading etc by email and you can upload that information through Race data - dcc file
download.meltemus.com/qtvlm/qtVlm_documentation_en.pdf
AIS pg 126
Race data dcc pg 89
