Hello,
My first post here and I know I have much to learn!
I have purrchsed the full version of QTVLM and installed on an android tablet. It is my intention to use it on board as my primary navigation system, also installed on my Android phone as a repeater at the helm.
I am using VMH charts and they are installed and activated.
I own a Vesper XB8000 AIS transponder and want to use it on board.  XB-8000 Class B AIS Transponder with WiFi | Vesper Marine
Can I connect my tablet directly to the XB8000 (in access point mode) and use the incoming AIS NMEA data with QTVLM?
I am currently set up with the XB in network mode and receiving data over TCP but this does not work nearly as well as connecting directly with Navioninics.

Many thanks all and hope that I have explained properly, any clarity required, just ask and I will try!

All the very best!

BarnabyS

Hi,
Have you tried to go to the NMEA configuration tab and configure a TCP incoming channel ? I don't have access to your XB8000 documentation but it certainly has a chapter about which IP and port to use.

Hello Phillipe, Many thanks for taking some time to consider my issue.
The answer is that I have but with no success, the reason being I ran out of know how!
The Vesper can be configured in Access Point or Client mode.
In AP mode I entered the default IP address and port number.
In Client mode, I altered the IP to be in the same range as my local network (at home, I am trying this indoors at the moment) and then used that IP address and the default port...

No success to date and I cannot see that QTVLM is 'aware' of the Vesper at all.

All the best, Barney.

Hi,
I don't know specifically for the XB8000 but in principle:
You should be in Access Point Mode. Then disconnect your android device from your home WIFI and from mobile data and connect it to the XB8000 WIFI network. Then on qtVlm/Android define the TCP connection IP+port, and that should work (don't forget to start NMEA on qtVlm, and check that AIS is activated).

Hi Phillipe.

The answer was, of course, stupid user!
I had not separately started NMEA as I believed that the start logging Nmea when QTVLM starts would do so for me,
I hope not too much time wasted but at least I can now confirm that they do play well together!

Thanks for your time and efforts! BarnabyS

No problem Banaby, note that you can choose in the options to start NMEA automatically at startup
