Using qtVlm for Powerboat Trip Planning? a été créé par willbank
Hi all,

New here. This may be heresy but I'm planning a trip to all the rock lighthouses (those offshore, built out in the ocean) around the UK and would like to use qtVlm to help me plan it all with the relevant tidal info, harbour stops, refuelling etc. I have bought the charts from VMH.

However, as I am doing this by 28ft cabin powerboat (XO 270 FC OB) I am struggling to understand how to work with polars etc.

Can anyone tell me how to set up a polar for a powerboat or where I might be able to find one?

Many thanks in advance,

Will

Hi,
I think you can easily build a simple motorboat polar. I am not an expert at all in motorboats but I suppose something simple with let's say 3 or 4 TWS should be OK, assuming your speed is not always the same and do vary a bit with wind speed and direction. You will also need I suppose a "wave polar". Concerning fuel consumption calculations you can use "custom route's fields".

All this needs a bit of preparation but it is certainly doable.

You can contact me at lelong.ph<at>meltemus.com if you want more advices.

Regards,
Philippe.
